ISLAMABAD: Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, the former prime minister and president of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N), appeared in the accountability court on Monday.
While talking to media after his appearance in the al-Azizia reference in the court, he emphatically said that despite court’s verdict against him and his disqualification as Prime Minister, PML-N still won the senate elections in Sargodha. He said that this proved that the people respected the power of vote and had not accepted his elimination from his post over Iqama.
Ex-PM Sharif further added that he was not a thief or did not belong to any criminal mafia. I was a Prime Minister who brought Pakistan the historic foreign investment under China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and a leader who successfully negotiated gas agreements for Pakistan, he said.
We were selected by general masses, and the whole nation still supported PML-N and had not accepted the Supreme Court’s decision in Panama Leaks case. Even the parliament had rejected this decision and elected ‘party???s candidates’ by giving majority votes, he added.
Earlier, Sharif stressed that the development projects he had approved during his time as the PM should be banished as well. He gave this statement before his brother was elected as the party chief.
